I have a younger friend who uses it all the time, and I only recently realised it wasn't weird coloured Mickey Mouse ears (possibly Mini). Emojis without glasses on = chaos!
This is weirdly timely for me as I had no idea what that emoji was for the longest time and also assumed it was a box of tissues given context clues. I finally dug into it last week and it's actually the worst, least-discernible emoji in existence. Like Keris, I took a screenshot of it and zoomed in to figure out what it was. Awful.
Ahhh, so there’s a few of us! It really does call its effectiveness into question if we’re having to zoom in to see what it is. The Unicode Consortium has lost it.
And it's funny how the hearts can read to some people. I, personally, wouldn't use a regular heart for a sad message, because it would look like I was "hearting" the message, aka approving of it.
Hee, well a decade or so younger than me, so that's super young ;)
And yes, I get that, too -- the sadder the situation, the harder it is to gauge the right emoji. Plus we're all different and have different interpretations, and some of us can't see as well as we thought!
Yes! Finally! Won't someone consider the overly sensitive? We don't deserve to be the virtual butt of a Randy Newman song!
I see this emoji occasionally and every time I have to remind myself what it is. It's a heckuva design. I don't think I've used it, for the reason of its terrible design. If it were improved, it would be stellar among emojis. Just a better color palette, and Bob's your uncle! The yellow blob offering a hug can't help but look simpering; we do need something better, but just make it visually interpretable without squinting! I don't think it's just you! I share your indignation, even though I didn't suspect it of being a box of tissues. (That would indeed be enraging.)
Thank you for the solidarity! (What did you think it was, just a weird blob? Understandable if so.) You’re right, the yellow hug seems too happy to be useful in a range of situations, they really need to go back to the drawing board…
I think I ignored it for a while, too lazy to bother sorting it out -- no one ever used it with me, I just saw it given to other people's posts. Eventually I stopped to decode it, which should not be necessary with a freaking emoji. I didn't think it was something else, but it did take a concerted stare to figure out. Very unpleasant emoji really!
I thought it was a tissue box for ages too! I had to screenshot it and zoom in before I worked it out.
Oh, thank god it’s not just me! I won’t even tell you what I thought the saluting emoji was… ☺️
I just looked it up and 😂😂😂
I couldn’t believe it was allowed! 😂
😂

I’m learning today that it’s confusing people at every turn!

Oh no, I used that in our chats almost every time!
I thought it was because you were young! Also I remember a lot of hearts 🥰
How old do you think I am? ^^;

Super young people consider me ancient. Then again, I've been called a grandma at 20, so...
Well, you’ll always be younger than me, if that helps 😉
🫂🤨🤧😵💫❤️❤️
Thank you! (I think)

It seems to have bedevilled many of us, which isn’t supposed to be the idea with emojis!
